Make organisation your weapon

If time is your enemy, make organisation your weapon of choice.
If you feel that you have no time and are feeling constantly under pressure, reaching your goals will seem like an impossible task. You may even end up dumping them on the pile with all the other things on your endless “to do” list. So you have to start by getting your house in order. Literally.

If you believe that untidiness and chaos make you look busy, or that being organised is for boring people, you are kidding yourself. When everything around you is a mess, your life’s a mess. You can’t think straight, you can’t find things, jobs take longer to do, important things get lost…and the look of it all is just depressing! When you de-clutter your personal environment: your house, your car and your office, you are detoxing your mind and often getting a great physical workout at the same time! Whether you want to call it Feng Shui or just basic cleaning, straightening out your environment puts you back in control and is a vital first step to making bigger changes in your life.

Organising because you “have to” or because you think your partner prefers things to be tidy is not the right approach (you’ll feel like a slave!). Say to yourself that “I choose to de-clutter” instead of “I have to clean.” You must keep in mind your goal. That must be your motivating force. It must come from inside YOU. Life is far easier and more comfortable when you have control of it. One of the best ways to help you focus on what is really important in your life is to clear out all the items in your home that are no longer use or value.

Clothes, books, paperwork and memorabilia tend to mount up and turn into obstacles and distractions that can throw your life off balance. How many times have you searched through racks of unworn, outdated shirts to find the one that fits and looks good?

Trying to find an essential document among a pile of receipts and bills can create frustration that can lead forever to an association of paperwork with headaches. Don’t let the chaos beat you! Take control of your space and ensure everything in it has its place. What’s more, make sure it has earned that place on merit. Identify what is useful and/or valued and what is not.

Nik & Eva Speakman

We have studied and worked together since 1992. Between us we have studied human behaviour and psychology for seven decades. We both share an uncontainable passion to offer hope and to help people lead happier and less inhibited lives.

After many remarkable breakthroughs we created our own behavioural change therapy, ‘Schema Conditioning.’® Subsequent work with trauma victims and their related symptoms, led to the creation of two further trauma-based therapies.

‘Schema Conditioning Psychotherapy.’®

‘Visual Schema Displacement Therapy (VSDT)’®

‘Visual Schema Detachment & Restructuring (VSDR)’®

Qualifications from the creation of our therapies, resulted in training psychology professors, doctors and masters students at Universities in Amsterdam and Utrecht. In 2015, this training produced the two sets of scientific studies conducted into the workings of our therapy; the first two study papers highlighting the remarkable efficacy, was published in the Journal of Behaviour Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry in June 2019. A further third study was then published in the European Journal of Psychotraumatology in April 2021, with a fourth clinical study with hospital patients is currently underway and will be completed by the end of 2022.

In addition to members of the public, we work with, and have treated many high-profile clients and ‘A’ list clients around the world, having had prodigious successes. We are resident therapists on ITV’s multi award-winning ‘This Morning’ and have been for over a decade, we have also had own television shows, one of which, ‘The Speakmans’, also aired on ITV and several countries worldwide. Over the last two decades we have appeared on numerous other television shows as experts, such as the multi award-winning Saturday Night Takeaway.

Our mission is to illuminate that there is ALWAYS HOPE and that overcoming trauma and improving quality of life is entirely possible. Many people have either never been given hope, or worse had hope taken away from them, our aim is to correct that by sharing our message in any way we possibly can, including live workshops, theatre tours, books, podcasts, radio, television, social media and YouTube.

At the heart of all we do, is our relentless mission to offer HOPE to as many people as we possibly can.
