Life is all about perspective

Nick Vujicic

Someone who really inspires us, is Nick Vujicic.  If you don’t know who he is, well, he’s a man with no arms and no legs.

Although he has this huge disability, he still lives his life to the fullest. He swims, surfs, he’s married, and he basically does most things that you or we would. On top of all that, he inspires many people at various events around the world, with great stories about his amazing life and the possibilities open to us all.

Well, we can all learn many things from Nick, such as being grateful for what we have, and not being upset for what we don’t have.

Just like Nick, we can all enjoy life, creating our own happiness, and most of all living the life you want, no matter what your circumstances are. Apart from all that, there is actually one major thing that we can all learn from him and it’s the fact that:

You can’t always change your problems, but you can ALWAYS change the way you see them.

Lets say that again, “You can’t always change your problems, but you can ALWAYS change the way you see them.”

For example, you can’t always change your problems, Nick was born without arms and legs.

Well, you imagine if he had a faith like “Someday, I’ll have two arms and two legs and they will grow!” We would like to believe that too, after all it seems like a good attitude to have, an optimistic one, but it’s not right. You see, if he set his mind like that, then he would never live his life to the full, because he would always look for something that did not exist, and he would just be frustrated.

So, he was born with no arms and legs and that’s it, or is it?  It doesn’t mean there’s no hope. That solution we mentioned doesn’t exist, of course not, but it doesn’t mean there’s no right solution.

You can always change the way you see any situation.

  • The first thing Nick did was to accept what had happened in his life.

  • Secondly, to be grateful he has a life even though he is not as “lucky” as some others.

  • Thirdly, he had to change the perspective!  After all its all about the way you see it! Hey presto he enjoys an amazing life.

So, please consider this and consider how Nick manages.  After all, we are pretty sure the challenges that you may be faced with right now are at lot less than what Nick was faced with.

So take something good from your challenges, see your problems as opportunities, and just like Nick, take a chance to change your weaknesses into something powerful. Be just like Nick, who learned to swim without arms and legs, instead of saying “I will never be able to swim like others, because I have no arms and legs!”

Don’t let your life be controlled by your circumstances. Remember you are the one who should control your life, no matter what the circumstances are.

We don’t say that you can always control your circumstances, sometimes it’s just far from what you expect it would be, but you can still design your own life with whatever life you have. You can still change bad things into good things, it’s just an opportunity to change the worst into the best. It might not be easy, we know that and it sometimes takes a long time, but it REALLY CAN happen.

Showing that even when the situation is bad, life can still be great, when you live it right and see it from the right perspective.

Nik & Eva Speakman

We have studied and worked together since 1992. Between us we have studied human behaviour and psychology for seven decades. We both share an uncontainable passion to offer hope and to help people lead happier and less inhibited lives.

After many remarkable breakthroughs we created our own behavioural change therapy, ‘Schema Conditioning.’® Subsequent work with trauma victims and their related symptoms, led to the creation of two further trauma-based therapies.

‘Schema Conditioning Psychotherapy.’®

‘Visual Schema Displacement Therapy (VSDT)’®

‘Visual Schema Detachment & Restructuring (VSDR)’®

Qualifications from the creation of our therapies, resulted in training psychology professors, doctors and masters students at Universities in Amsterdam and Utrecht. In 2015, this training produced the two sets of scientific studies conducted into the workings of our therapy; the first two study papers highlighting the remarkable efficacy, was published in the Journal of Behaviour Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry in June 2019. A further third study was then published in the European Journal of Psychotraumatology in April 2021, with a fourth clinical study with hospital patients is currently underway and will be completed by the end of 2022.

In addition to members of the public, we work with, and have treated many high-profile clients and ‘A’ list clients around the world, having had prodigious successes. We are resident therapists on ITV’s multi award-winning ‘This Morning’ and have been for over a decade, we have also had own television shows, one of which, ‘The Speakmans’, also aired on ITV and several countries worldwide. Over the last two decades we have appeared on numerous other television shows as experts, such as the multi award-winning Saturday Night Takeaway.

Our mission is to illuminate that there is ALWAYS HOPE and that overcoming trauma and improving quality of life is entirely possible. Many people have either never been given hope, or worse had hope taken away from them, our aim is to correct that by sharing our message in any way we possibly can, including live workshops, theatre tours, books, podcasts, radio, television, social media and YouTube.

At the heart of all we do, is our relentless mission to offer HOPE to as many people as we possibly can.
